    • Now you can initialize simulations by interpolating from existing solutions in your project, regardless of mesh differences. Also, choosing Existing Solution will now apply to all physics in your simulation. Learn more here.

  • Enhancements

    • The Luminary Cloud Python SDK has been updated to version 0.4.2. This version adds support for the Luminary Cloud SDK to ITAR environments. Learn more here.
    • Now when you upload a C81 file for use in a disk model, we can parse the header axis lengths by whitespace, comma, or fixed width modes. The table can also now exceed 99 elements along each axis.
  • Fixes

    • Previously, deleting an uploaded mesh file from a project and uploading a new one would result in errors. Now you can delete an uploaded mesh and reupload within a project. Click the three dots (...) at the top of the Geometry panel and select Delete Geometry.
    • Some users were experiencing issues viewing the Results page in their projects due to mismatches in surface groups across the Setup and Simulation tabs. The Results page will no longer crash for outputs with inconsistent groups across Setup and Simulation tabs, but some results tables may show empty output values. Please update those outputs with the latest surface groups.

  • Enhancements

    • We've removed the Edit and Done buttons when making surface and volume selections for Frames & Motion in the properties panel. Instead, click on the box to enter selection mode. When you're done making selections, click anywhere outside the box to save.
    • We've added a new Wall Shear Stress Average surface quantity for transient simulations where General > Compute Statistics is set to On. This will compute the time-average of wall shear stress. When viewing results, select Wall Shear Stress Average from the dropdown at the top of the 3D Viewer.

    • The Smooth option has been deprecated from the Clip tool. Now when you create a clip of a CAD model with no mesh, the clip is smooth while clips of meshes are not.

  • Enhancements

    • Now you can duplicate visualization filters and XY Plots. Right-click on a visualization filter or XY Plot and select Duplicate.

  • Important Notes

    • Starting in this release, you may notice a warning message when performing certain actions in a previously created project.
      • This warning will only be shown in certain cases where a corruption of project state may occur due to an incompatibility with earlier versions of the platform. You may see this warning when generating a new mesh in a project with a previously generated mesh, adding a far-field to a geometry, or generating geometry contacts.
      • As shown in the warning, the suggested workaround is to create a new project, upload the CAD file, and perform the operation.
      • We are working to address this issue in the platform so that this workaround will not be necessary in the future. If you have any questions about this issue or need help with the workaround, please reach out to support@luminarycloud.com

    • We've added a new Fan model for inlet and outlet boundary conditions, and as a new disk model for creating internal fans. Upload a fan curve table and incorporate a fan's effect on the flow without having to model detailed fan blades.

  • Enhancements

    • Now you can view all the meshes you've generated in a project and swap between them for use in a simulation or as a base mesh for Lumi Mesh Adaptation. Click on Mesh, then select Swap Mesh.
    • The Luminary Cloud Python SDK has been updated to version 0.4.1. This version includes a new DeleteMesh API that allows you to delete mesh files. Learn more here.
    • Now you can sort items in the Geometry panel. Click the three dot menu in the upper-right corner, then choose between alphanumeric or group size.
    • When choosing surfaces, volumes, points, or disks to apply settings to, we now automatically hide items in the Geometry panel that are incompatible. For example, when choosing a DIsk to apply a Disk Model to, you will only see Disks in the geometry panel for faster simulation setup.
    • When choosing an existing solution from the Initialization menu, now you can select simulations that used a different transition model than the one you have currently selected. This change allows you to initialize a fully turbulent simulation from a simulation that used a transition model.
    • Any changes to Reference Values after you've started a simulation are now only applied to the simulation you're viewing.

  • Enhancements

    • Early Access: We've added Automatic Contact Detection for CAD models. When creating a multiphysics coupling, you can now use Contacts to automatically select each side of the interface. Learn more here.
    • For easier navigation between simulation settings, surfaces, and volumes, we've moved Geometry from the control panel to the left side of the 3D Viewer.
    • When viewing CAD geometry, you can now choose between selection modes with a new drop down in the visualization toolbar.
    • Now you can download volume data for use in your own post-processing tools. From the Results tab, open a simulation, then click Download > Volume Data at the bottom-right of the 3D Viewer.
    • Now you can edit Reference Values when viewing simulation results. Any quantities that depend on those reference values are automatically updated. You can also use far field boundary conditions as reference values. Learn more here.

    • In previous versions, a Solution Residuals output and a default stopping condition were automatically added when you created a new project. Now, we don't create a default output and stopping condition on project creation and instead add an associated Solution Residuals output and stopping condition whenever new physics are added.

    • Introducing Multiphysics:
    • ~In addition to Fluid Physics, you can now create Heat Transfer in Solid Physics.
    • ~You can create fluid materials for fluid flow analysis, solid materials for heat transfer analysis, or you can create both materials in a single project for the simulation of conjugate heat transfer between solid and fluid domains.

    • You can now duplicate refinement regions, motion frames, disks, points, and planes by right-clicking and selecting Duplicate.
    • On the Projects Summary page, you can now view total compute credits consumed per project. Click on the gear icon, then select Total Compute Credits.

    • ~The Viscous Model dropdown has been moved to Physics > Fluid Physics.

    • ~Turbulence settings have been moved to Physics > Fluid Physics.
    • ~Initialization settings are set separately for fluid flow and solid heat transfer physics. Click on Physics > Fluid Physics or Heat Transfer in Solid to view the Initialization settings.
    • The Simulation Settings section of the control panel has been deprecated:
    • ~Spatial Discretization and Solution Controls are set separately for fluid flow and solid heat transfer physics. Click on Physics > Fluid Physics or Heat Transfer in Solid to view the settings.
    • ~Solution Output settings have been moved to General.
    • ~Stopping Conditions are now in a new Stopping Conditions section in the control panel.

    • Introducing Lumi Mesh Adaptation! Instead of manually adjusting meshing parameters and regenerating, you can use Lumi Mesh Adaptation to automate the mesh iteration process, generate an optimal mesh, and solve for your solution in a single simulation. Learn more here.
    • A new Minimal Count sizing strategy enables you to confirm your problem setup while keeping your time and credit spend low. It will generate a coarse mesh without Mesh Size, Model, or Refinement Regions inputs. You can generate a minimal mesh to use as a base mesh with Lumi Mesh Adaptation. Learn more here.

  • Enhancements

    • We're rolling out Luminary3D, a new visualization service to improve 3D Viewer usability and performance. Starting with uploaded CAD models, you'll notice an improved experience, faster load times, and new features for easier viewing of model surfaces. Over the next few months, Luminary3D will expand to generated and uploaded mesh files and the results view. Luminary3D includes the following new and updated features:
      • Updated context menu
      • Transparency (right-click on a selected surface and select Make Others Transparent)
      • Updated Probe interface
      • Mouse-over surface highlighting in the control panel and 3D Viewer
      • Interactive widgets for Clips and Slices
      • Zoom to cursor (alt/option + scroll)
      • New surface colors
      • Improved motion preview animations
    • You can now use geometric actuator disk parameters (inner/outer radius, center, and normal vector) in Explorations. Learn more here.
    • Now when you export XY Plot data generated with an intersection curve, each curve is labeled with a segment ID. You can use this to plot exported data using Python or another third-party tool. Learn more and view an example Python script here.

  • Enhancements

    • Spatially Varying Boundary Conditions are now available for Inlet boundary conditions. Upload a tabulated profile in CSV format and select that data as input for certain parameters. Learn more here.
    • For Inlet and Far Field boundary conditions, the Uniform Values option for Turbulence Specification - Spalart Allmaras has been renamed to Prescribed Value.
    • For Inlet and Far Field boundary conditions, we've added Prescribed Value as an option for Turbulence Specification - k-w.
    • We've added Quadratic Constitutive Relation and Rotation Correction parameters to the Spalart-Allmaras turbulence model in Model Settings > Turbulence. These options are off by default. Learn more here.
    • You can now calculate Force for Porous Media surfaces. Learn more about surface outputs here.
    • You can now use the arrow keys on your keyboard to navigate the control panel. Use the up/down keys to navigate the rows and the left/right keys to open or close sections.
    • Right-click anywhere in the 3D Viewer and select Light Background to switch from a black background to a white background. Select Dark Background to switch back to the default black background.
    • You can now view how much cloud storage a project is using on the projects summary page. Click on the gear icon and check the Storage Used box.

    • We’ve redesigned the top header and toolbar inside of your projects for a more compact view. The Results and Setup tabs have been moved to the top header, and the Visualization toolbar has been moved to a new floating toolbar at the top of the 3D Viewer.
    • For transient simulations, we've added a Formulation property to frames that define motion. Use this property to choose between Moving Mesh, where the mesh moves at each time step, or Moving Frame, where the governing equations are solved in a moving reference frame. Learn more here.

    • You can now write expressions using quantities from point, surface, and volume outputs with standard math operations and functions using a Custom Output. Calculate things like aerodynamic efficiency, pressure drop coefficients, and more. Learn more here.
    • You can now model Wall Roughness inside of a Wall Boundary Condition. In cases where you’re working with rough surfaces, you can set the Equivalent Sand Grain Roughness height in meters. Learn more here.
